When Rory McIlroy showed off photos of his latest driver on Facebook, one golf fan got more than than he expected when he cheekily asked for a freebie.
The world No 3 has nearly a million people like his Facebook page and more than 2.5m followers on Twitter, but he still finds the time to respond to individual messages on social media.
So when the four-time major winner showed off photos of his latest driver ahead of the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, one fan saw it as an opportunity to try and get himself a memorable souvenir.
Few would have expected the Northern Irishman to respond to Barry Edwards' hopeful post saying "I still need a new driver", but McIlroy replied moments later asking for an address to send the old model, telling the lucky supporter that the club had 'served him well'.
Although McIlroy couldn't "guarantee 320-yard drives", the generous offer was gratefully received by the fan, who was bombarded with a series of messages from many of McIlroy's envious followers.
After making one fan's day, McIlroy will now focus on recovering from illness in time to feature in Shanghai and maintain his position at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.
