Henrik Stenson boosted his bank balance with a monster putt on the final green

Henrik Stenson salutes the crowd after his spectacular closing birdie

Henrik Stenson's hopes of a second FedExCup title disappeared with a double-bogey on the penultimate hole of the Tour Championship, and moments later he was standing over one of the most lucrative putts of his career.

With Jordan Spieth cruising to victory, the Swede needed to finish in a share of second at worst to pip Jason Day as runner-up behind Spieth in the overall FedExCup standings, and he required a birdie at the 72nd hole to do so.

Henrik Stenson's putt on the 18th of the final round of the Tour Championship helped him to finish tied second, earning him $1.3m extra from the FedEx Cup

But that looked an unlikely prospect when he tugged his tee-shot to the par-three closing hole, his ball finding the green almost 60 feet from the pin.

Standing over a putt worth around £650,000 is a daunting prospect even for the most seasoned professional, but Stenson was up to the task - and even Spieth celebrated as the ball hit the bottom of the cup.
