If you are struggling to make the cut with two holes to play, what better time to make a hole-in-one?
Colt Knost arrived on the tee at the fearsome 221-yard 17th at Quail Hollow staring at an early exit from the Wells Fargo Championship, standing at two over and two shots outside the projected cut mark.
But undeterred by the reputation of the Green Mile - holes 16, 17 and 18 - Knost followed a good par at the 16th with a perfect tee shot at the penultimate hole - a high draw with a long iron that carried the water, pitched on the front of the green and hit the pin at pace before dropping.
After high-fiving his playing partners, Knost then sought out a young fan in the gallery who had given him a broken tee to use before hitting only the second ace in the tournament's history.
And, clearly inspired by his moment of magic, Knost closed with a confident birdie-three at the tough 18th to return a four-under 68 that will be enough to see him in for the weekend.
