Mickelson claimed the first of his three Green Jackets in dramatic fashion, snatching victory ahead of Ernie Els after an enthralling final round.

The left-hander went in to Sunday holding a share of the lead but lost ground with three consecutive bogeys along the front nine, as Els fired a closing 67 to set the clubhouse target.

Mickelson was two-over for the day after 11 holes but surged up the leaderboard with a hat-trick of gains from the 12th and a birdie-two at the 16th.

Sitting alongside Els as he made his way up the last, Mickelson coaxed home a 15-foot birdie on the final green and leapt in to the air to celebrate victory in style.
