He might not be in contention at the CareerBuilder Challenge, but Phil Mickelson produced a stunning bunker shot during his second round

Phil Mickelson is seemingly out of contention at 10 shots off the pace at the halfway stage of the CareerBuilder Challenge but he produced a memorable moment during the second round in California.

The left-hander, playing in his first event since late October, started on the 10th hole at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and found a greenside bunker with his second shot.

However, he made a superb recovery from the low-lying sand, his ball taking the aerial route as it dropped gently onto the green and rolled into the hole.

Adam Hadwin also made his mark during the second round with his tee shot on the par-three 17th at the Stadium Course.

The Canadian's ball appeared to be heading for the water but took a fortunate bounce on the greenside rocks and landed on the putting surface instead of getting wet.

Hadwin failed to hole his birdie putt as he settled for a par but his five-under 67 left him just five shots behind leader Andrew Landry.
