The New Saints slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Rijeka in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie on Tuesday night.
The Croatian champions got off to the perfect start on home soil when Josip Misic's free-kick put Rijeka ahead after four minutes.
They doubled their lead midway through the second half thanks to Florentin Matei, who finished from close range.
TNS came under heavy pressure for much of the match but defended stoutly and are still in the tie with the second leg to come at Park Hall next Tuesday.
The Welsh club's best chance to grab a precious goal fell to Scott Quigley but the forward could not convert.
