Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Liverpool helped emphasise how much they have progressed over the course of the season.

The Gunners eased past Brendan Rodgers’ side at the Emirates to move into second place in the Premier League, although Manchester City would climb back above them if they win at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Arsenal are on an impressive run of form, having lost just twice in their last 12 matches in all competitions, a run which has also set up an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against Reading on April 18.

We had a very slow start this season, when we had many important players out together, and we dropped too many points.

Wenger believes a title challenge remains unlikely despite their recent improvement, although he concedes they could still be crowned champions for the first time since 2004 if Chelsea slip up badly in the run-in.

"If there were 15 (league) games to go, you would not complain," he said.

"We had a very slow start this season, when we had many important players out together, and we dropped too many points.

"We played six games in the Premier League and won two, after that you have a mountain to climb.

"For the title we need us to be perfect and Chelsea not to be perfect, so let's focus on what we can master which means our own performance.

"But now you can see that when we have everybody back, we can compete and the number of points we have made shows we have the quality to fight at the top."
