Crewe made it five wins from their last seven games as Nicky Ajose and Marcus Haber were on target in a 2-0 win against Fleetwood.
Ajose edged the Railwaymen ahead when he slipped clear on to Jamie Ness's pass and slotted the ball past visiting goalkeeper Chris Maxwell three minutes before the break. The Leeds loanee's eighth goal since arriving at Gresty Road was a shock for the visitors, who had enjoyed the better of the opening half. But they found Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt in outstanding form. The 20-year-old kept out a dipping effort from Liam McAlinden and also thwarted David Ball after the striker had got in behind his marker and looked to have picked out the far corner with a low finish. Crewe have been transformed since signing Ajose from Leeds to sharpen their attack and veteran defender Alan Tate from Swansea and while they rode their luck in the first-half, they were the better team in the second period. The home side's second goal arrived in the 59th-minute when Ajose recovered from stumbling in the box to whip a tremendous cross to the far post for Haber to head home. Ajose could have his second later after he had beaten the offside trap, but Maxwell came off his line to thwart the in-form striker.
