Ben Gladwin came off the bench to head the only goal for Swindon as they eventually broke Fleetwood's stubborn resistance.
Gladwin had only been on the field eight minutes but, with only four minutes of normal time remaining, rose majestically in the box to power a corner from Harry Toffolo into the top corner. It was a maiden Football League goal for Gladwin, who Swindon signed from non-league Marlow Town 12 months ago. Gladwin's late winner was a just reward for Swindon, who battered resilient Fleetwood's defence throughout the second half without prior success. Swindon called the tune for the bulk of the time, but were repelled by a wall of yellow shirted Fleetwood defenders. Yaser Kasim wasted a great first half chance for Swindon - as did Mark Paterson for Fleetwood, who later paid the price for a lack of real ambition. Jon Obika, Nathan Byrne and Andy Williams all went close as Swindon stepped up a gear, while at the other end Tom Hitchcock was substituted immediately after wasting a chance that could have won Fleetwood the match.
