Ferdinand returns from suspension this weekend and Harry Redknapp hopes to have the defender available to face Leicester

Harry Redknapp insists QPRdefender Rio Ferdinand has the potential to be perfect management material, should he decide to hang up his boots up at the end of the season.

The former Manchester United star has struggled to break into Rangers' starting line-up following his summer move from Old Trafford and was benched for two games before he started a three-game ban.

But Redknapp is backing the 36-year-old former England International to use all his experience in the management game and expects the centre-back to be a success on the touchline one day.

He's a good person to have around the place... he sets a good example to everybody on the training pitch.
Redknapp on Ferdinand

"He's a good lad and I think he's management material one day," Redknapp told the Daily Star.

"I like him a lot, he talks to the younger players.

"He's a good person to have around the place because he's a good pro, a good trainer and sets a good example to everybody on the training pitch.

"He's a laid-back character and is always confident in his own ability so I'm sure he will be okay.

"He could go into TV though, it's probably easier and sounds a better bet - no aggro.

"The kids look up to him and know what he's done, they see what good shape he keeps himself in - he's not fat and overweight, lazy."
