Premier League: Alan Irvine praises West Brom players after Leicester win

Alan Irvine hailed his 'professional' West Brom players after they secured a 'difficult' 1-0 away victory over Leicester.

The visitors were the better side at the King Power Stadium, but were made to work for their win after Esteban Cambiasso's unfortunate own goal at the start of the second half.

Having gone without a win throughout the whole of October, Irvine's men now sit 10th in the Premier League after becoming the first travelling side to beat Leicester this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Irvine praised a hard-fought win against 'difficult' opponents: "It means a lot. This is a really difficult place to come to. Manchester United, Everton and Arsenal haven't won here, so we're the first team to do so (this season).

"We knew how hard the game would be and it was really important that we were able to cope with the pressure that they put you under. We passed the ball well and I'm pleased with the performance overall.

Alan Irvine admits his West Brom side were under pressure in the latter stages of their win over Leicester

"Nigel (Pearson) threw so many forwards and attacking options on and they tried very hard to get back in the game. It was important that we did dominate possession and make some passes.

"That was the kind of thing I was trying to scream onto the pitch, but I'm not sure that the lads could hear me!"

Asked what pleased him most about the crucial victory, Irvine responded: "All of it. It has to be our complete team performance.

"We needed to have that threat up front and we needed to stretch them.

"Saido (Berahino) made better runs as the game went on and his movement is generally good. He's a player who is capable of making those runs and getting in behind, as he showed for the goal.

"At the back, we were very, very solid against difficult forwards to play against.

Although his side received rave reviews, Irvine still sees room for improvement.

"We're closer. You're never satisfied and always looking for that little bit more.

"I've said many times they're a great group of players to work for. They're very honest and professional.

"I think we will get better.

"Three points, clean sheet. It's a great feeling for us. It gives us a platform to go into the next game which will be really hard against Newcastle at home."
