Mexico coach Miguel Herrera could not hide his joy after his side booked their place in the last 16 with a 3-1 victory over Croatia.
In a make-or-break clash, Mexico - who only needed a draw - proved too good for their European opposition with goals from Rafael Marquez, Andres Guardado and Javier Hernandez.
Ivan Perisic claimed a late consolation, but it was not enough to dampen Mexico spirits as they secured a second round clash with Holland.
"We overcame the first hurdle. We're happy," Herrera told his post-match press conference.
"That is one of the happiest days of my life. It was a hard fight, but my team pulled through. We felt as if we were playing at home in Mexico.
"We're going to celebrate tonight but tomorrow we have to start thinking of our match with the Netherlands."
