Jim Bentley apologised to Morecambe fans for his side's poor showing as they went down 4-0 at home to Fleetwood.
Jon Parkin had failed to score since making his summer move to Town but he made amends with a hat-trick, while Barry Nicholson capped off a great afternoon for the Cod Army with a fourth six minutes from time. Bentley said: "I'm disappointed across the board with every aspect of our play and it has not been a good day. "After such a good start to the season where we have put in some excellent displays I couldn't see it coming, but we were second best in almost every area. "Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you were beaten by the better team and that was definitely the case as they were more than worthy winners. "We will have to make sure we put this to bed as soon as possible and not let it linger. We will move on but there is no doubt that was a massively disappointing day for the fans, who deserved better."
