Hannover and Bayen both win while Hamburg crush Cologne

Hannover have cemented third place, Bayern Munich left it at Freiburg while Hamburg put Cologne to the sword. The late match saw leaders Borussia Dortmund drop two points in the title race after being held to a late 1-1 draw at home to Mainz. The league leaders started brightly and assumed an early lead when Mats Hummels found the back of the net with eight minutes played. Nuri Sahin then missed a penalty and that proved costly as Mainz snatched a late leveller through Petar Piszczek, leaving the home fans stunned. Hannover have boosted their hopes of European football next season after getting the better of Hoffenheim 2-0 on home soil. Goals either side of half time from Didier Konan and Mohammed Abdellaoue ensured the home team collected all three points. Bayern Munich responded from their midweek UEFA Champions League disappointment with a late 2-1 win over Freiburg. Papiss Cisse nullified Mario Gomez's opener for Bayern and just when it looked like Louis van Gaal's side were drop two points Franck Ribery snatched a last-gasp victory at the death. Hamburg boosted their goal difference following a resounding 6-2 home success over Cologne with Mladen Petric helping himself to a hat-trick. Petric opened the scoring with Anis Ben-Hatira doubling their advantage on 32 minutes. Petric effectively settled the contest before half time by adding a further two goals. Mato Jajalo pulled one back before Gojko Kacar and Ze Roberto from the penalty spot made it 6-1 with Lukas Podolski adding a consolation for the visitors. Nuremburg dropped points in the race for a European spot after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Werder Bremen. Ilkay Gundogan cancelled out Sandro Wagner's opener for the visitors, but they had no response when Claudio Pizarro restored Werder's lead five minutes after half time. The home side played out the final 18 minutes a man light when Timothy Chandler picked up his second booking of the game and they conceded again with Wagner adding a late third. Eintracht Frankfurt won the battle of the relegation-threatened teams as they edged out St Pauli 2-1. Theofanis Gekas fired the home side ahead from the penalty spot, but their lead was short-lived as Charles Takyi levelled matters before half time. However, Gekas had the last laugh as his second of the game with 77 minutes played settled the contest.
