Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon was full of praise for Jon Parkin after the striker scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win at Morecambe.
The former Preston and Cardiff frontman had failed to score since making his summer move to Highbury but made amends with a fine individual display, while Barry Nicholson capped off a great afternoon for the Cod Army with a fourth six minutes from time. Mellon said: "We got the game right, with the ball and without it. We controlled the tempo and I have to be delighted with the overall performance as well as the display from Jon Parkin. "He hadn't scored before this but he has played well this season and his goals here were a massive bonus for him and for us. He is a big player for us and I am delighted for him. He is far more than just a goalscorer and those goals will give him a massive lift." Mellon added: "It's always difficult to come to a place like Morecambe and get a result and we knew that to win this game we had to get most things right and we did that. "It was one of those days where most things went for us. Everything we tried to do came off and there were a lot of fantastic performances across the team."
