Carayol stars in Rovers victory

A brilliant solo goal from Mustapha Carayol earned Bristol Rovers a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon on a quagmire of a Memorial Stadium pitch.

The winger accepted the ball just inside the Wimbledon half after 11 minutes and cut in from the left to bend a perfectly placed shot past Seb Brown from the edge of the box. Wimbledon made a fight of it in the second half and Rovers keeper Scott Bevan had to make fine saves from George Moncur and Sammy Moore. Rovers created all the chances of a first half made treacherous by heavy rain. Matt Gill was just inches wide with a low shot on 33 minutes. Chris Zebroski had two efforts off target and just before the break a low, skidding shot from Danny Woodards went just the wrong side of a post. But in the end both sides deserved credit for serving up an entertaining game in increasingly difficult conditions.
