Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe won't relax until they are mathematically safe from the drop

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says the unpredictable nature of the Premier League means he is unable to relax, despite his team being four points clear of the drop.

The Cherries currently sit 15th in the division and are four points ahead of Newcastle United, the team in the final relegation place.

Howe takes his side to Watford this weekend on the back of three successive defeats, although one of those was to Everton in the FA Cup, but also aware they have only been beaten once in seven Premier League games away from home.

"You don't want to lose one let alone three, but we can't overreact," said Howe. "They've been tough games. We're not worrying, we focus on the future and that's what I've told the players.

Captain Tommy Elphick speaks about his hopes to return from injury to help Bournemouth in their fight for Premier League survival

"We've been great on the road and that shows the quality we have. The more pressing concern is our home form and that needs to change. We're dogged and hard to beat.

"It's four points but that four can turn to one in the blink of an eye. From our perspective it's all about the next game and getting as many points as we can as quickly as we can.

"This league is so unpredictable and can turn so quickly. We don't feel at this moment in time that there is a nice cushion.

"It's up to us to force home what we've started in terms of collecting the points that we need. They key thing for us is to not overreact to those defeats.

Howe accepts the size of the challenge awaiting his players this weekend, when they face a Watford side enjoying a superb campaign and currently sitting ninth in the table.

"They have done incredibly well this season. They will be hard to beat and hard to break down," he said.

"We felt we should have beaten Watford at home. We gave away a disappointing goal and then obviously missed the penalty. We've had some great tussles with them over the years, so it's no surprise for me to see them doing so well."
