Brighton boss Chris Hughton was left frustrated after conceding "poor goals" in the 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield on Saturday.
Steve Mounie scored a first-half double as Brighton's winless run extended to five matches in the Premier League.
The result saw Brighton slip down to 13th in the table, two places behind Huddersfield who were themselves on a four-game losing streak.
And having conceded five goals in their previous match against Liverpool, Hughton was disappointed with the manner of how Brighton let in Mounie's two goals.
Asked what had been the difference at the John Smith's Stadium, Hughton replied: "Us not playing at our level and conceding poor goals.
"Wherever you play in this division, if you give them the leg-up of two goals, it's difficult to come back from that.
"It was better in the second half, where we showed we could be a threat, but we have to stop conceding the type of goals we have done.
"The first goal from a corner was one we know that they do, and once it goes in it gives them the lift they need and gets the crowd going. We hadn't done ourselves any favours."
Brighton were 1-0 down after 12 minutes as Mounie bundled the ball home from Christopher Schindler's flick-on.
Mounie then scored his second just before half-time when Mat Ryan failed to keep out his header, and Hughton admitted the goalkeeper - who stayed out on the pitch during the break - will be not look back on that goal with fondness.
"It's one he will look at and be disappointed with. There's a bit of work before and we could have stopped it at the source," Hughton added.
"These things happen but at that stage it becomes difficult against a team who are good in possession. The biggest disappointment is coming here and giving away the kind of goals we did."
Brighton now turn their attentions to a Wembley date against Tottenham on Wednesday, although Hughton cannot help but look further ahead to Saturday's meeting at home to Burnley.
"The most important game is the next one. We're on the back of a real difficult game against Liverpool and a defeat here," Hughton said.
"It's only us as a team that can do something about that and turn it around. We then go into arguably a bigger game at home to Burnley, so we'll have to be better in those two games."
