Ball brace lifts Fleetwood

David Ball's double helped Fleetwood jump back into the play-off chase as rock-bottom Yeovil were beaten 4-0.

The hosts went ahead after just six minutes when some neat possession play down the right ended with a cross from Nick Haughton. Nathan Pond's diving header was shy of the target, but striker Ball was on hand to tap the loose ball home. The home side doubled their advantage in the 15th minute as Haughton and Ball combined again on the edge of the area and Yeovil goakeeper Artur Krysiak was unable to get a hand to the latter's shot. And with just over half an hour gone the hosts made it three. Ball this time was the provider and his pass set up Jamie Proctor, whose composed finish put the game beyond the Glovers. Yeovil did improve after the break and went close when Josh Sheehan's free-kick was tipped over by Fleetwood goalkeeper Chris Maxwell. But the hosts eventually added to their tally when teenage substitute Ashley Hunter pounced for his first Football League goal following Proctor's cross.
