Oldham's caretaker manager Dean Holden has made his first signing at the club by bringing defender Mat Sadler in on loan from Rotherham.
The left-back, who will spend the next month at SportsDirect.com Park, fills a position of need with Joseph Mills out because of a hamstring injury for the foreseeable future, and right-back Brian Wilson serving a suspension this weekend against Barnsley. Sadler, 30, has played just once for the Millers since moving to South Yorkshire in the summer and he spent two months on loan with Sky Bet League One outfit Crawley earlier in the season. His other former clubs include Birmingham, Watford, Shrewsbury and Holden's old team, Walsall. Speaking ahead of Sadler's arrival on Thursday morning, Holden said: "Left-back's become a bit of an issue with Brian getting sent off last weekend. "(Connor) Brown's been playing left-back so there's a decision there to make." Millers boss Steve Evans said of the deal: "Mat was an easy decision. He has been looking at options to take a loan move and he has decided Oldham Athletic, a good club with a man starting out his career in Dean Holden, so we wish him well. "He is obviously looking towards next season and he gets the opportunity to join a club where that could be an option for him if it goes well."
