Craig Shakespeare says Leicester are prepared to break their transfer record again this summer but will not make drastic changes to the squad.

The soon-to-be former champions have suffered a tumultuous season, recovered by Shakespeare after he replaced the sacked Claudio Ranieri earlier this year.

Islam Slimani, one of a number of players to have struggled this season, was the Foxes' record signing at £28m from Sporting Lisbon last season but Shakespeare insists "the squad doesn't need major surgery".

He said: "I think it'll be minimal. I expect a few going and a few coming. There could be a chance we will break the transfer record.

"You look at the players out there and the Premier League is the place to play. A lot of players will want to come to this country, but it's down to the individual clubs to sort their own recruitment out."

Shakespeare remains involved in transfer discussions despite his long-term future as boss still undecided, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

"You're in those meetings to give your opinion, that's what you're asked," he said.

"It's about not always agreeing but then backing your argument up with why this player wouldn't be suitable.

"You have to have your own opinions, there might be five people in the room with four different opinions. If you get that recruitment right, you have more of a chance of succeeding."
