Alex Neil says Norwich themselves to blame for their relegation plight

Alex Neil looks on prior to the Barclays Premier League match between Norwich City and Southampton

Alex Neil says his Norwich side will only have themselves to blame if they do not win enough games to stay in the Premier League.

Norwich head to Swansea this weekend after slipping into the relegation zone on goal difference following Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Chelsea, the latest loss in a run that has seen them pick up just one point from their last eight matches.

Neil's men felt hard done by on Tuesday, after Diego Costa's winning goal was allowed to stand despite the Chelsea striker appearing to be offside. But the Norwich boss refuses to blame refereeing decisions for the team's plight, insisting his focus is on beating the drop.

"I am a big believer in that you make your own luck. I am not sitting here saying we would not be in this position if it were not for the (refereeing) decisions," said Neil.

"We are in this position because we have not won enough games - it is as simple as that. In recent weeks we have been performing well, and if you keep doing that and making chances, then the results should follow."

Saturday's opponents Swansea dragged themselves six points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at title-chasing Arsenal on Tuesday, but Neil is desperate to ensure Norwich have their fate in their own hands.

"We need to win games to save ourselves, we can't rely on other people, so I am not thinking why did Arsenal not win?" added Neil. "It is not up to Arsenal to do us any favours. It is up to us.

"If we win games, then we give ourselves a chance, but if we don't win games, then it is not because of anybody else's fault, it is because of our own.

"The one strength we have as a club is that everybody is stuck together and is fighting really hard. You see no dissent, the lads are fighting for the cause and there are no issues within the squad whatsoever."
