Sunderland manager Chris Coleman says he's excited by challenge of 'must-win' matches

Chris Coleman says he is excited by the challenge of 'must-win' games and, for Sunderland, it does not get any bigger than a trip to fellow strugglers Burton this Saturday.

The former Wales manager officially took over at the Stadium of Light earlier this week, with Sunderland bottom of the Championship table and four points from safety.

This weekend they face Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium, with the Brewers also in the relegation zone, just three points clear of Sunderland.

Looking ahead to the match, Coleman said: "It doesn't matter whether it's Burton or away at Molineux.

"We have to have the same mentality for every match between now and the end of the season.

"We must understand the importance of it. We can't say, 'It's OK there's another game coming up.'

"At the same time, we must focus on ourselves and our game plan. I think that's what will turn the corner for us.

"It doesn't matter if it's Burton, home or away, we must focus on ourselves. It's huge but these are great games to be involved in.

"I'm used to being in games that are 'must-win.' I don't always win them but I'm used to the feeling of them, and I'm not put off by it.

"And I actually look forward to the excitement of them. Yes. Stress. But it's a challenge, fantastic.

"You'll learn a lot about yourself, it's a good tough game and a big one for us."

As for being in charge of Sunderland, Coleman added: "Whichever way this job goes, it'll make me a better manager.

"We're a big club in a tough situation and I'm delighted to be here. I know what I'm facing and excited about it.

"A chance to manage a big club."
