Watford mascot Harry the Hornet teases Zaha over claims of diving

Watford will not take any action against mascot Harry the Hornet following his controversial mocking of Wilfried Zaha.

The Football Association have also confirmed they will not contact Watford over the incident.

Crystal Palace star Zaha was furious he was not awarded a penalty during the 1-1 Boxing Day draw at Vicarage Road, and was instead booked for diving.

Merciless Harry rubbed salt in the wounds by diving comically behind Zaha at the end of the match as the winger and his team-mates trooped off the pitch.

Zaha's mood darkened further, and he began to walk towards Harry, before thinking better of it and disappearing down the tunnel.

Afterwards, Palace boss Sam Allardyce was less than impressed with Harry's antics.

"The mascot is out of order, isn't he?" Allardyce said. "If someone is diving, they don't get that angry."

Sky sources understand that the Hornets will not be speaking to Harry, acknowledging he is one of the more animated mascots on the circuit, and there will also be no action taken by the FA.

Watford said: "His job is to entertain supporters and he will continue to do so to the best of his abilities."

Asked about the incident on Ref Watch, Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports News HQ: "It is up to the FA to speak to the club and let them know what they should do about the incident.

"Zaha will argue that he is trying to incite him, but it is good that his colleagues have laughed it off. It is Christmas isn't it? A time of fun, and maybe it is time to just calm down and accept it was a bit of fun."

Zaha appeared to have seen the funny side the morning after, jokingly tweeting a picture of judges holding up scorecards alongside a thumbs-up.
