Mousa Dembele is confident Tottenham can achieve "something special" if they keep pace with Chelsea in the Premier League title race.
Spurs fell away in their pursuit of a first league title since 1961 last season and eventually finished third after winning just one of their final five matches.
A bad tempered 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge last May ultimately ended Tottenham's hopes of overhauling Leicester for the Premier League crown, but Dembele is convinced he and the rest of the Spurs squad have learnt from that experience and can go one better this time around.
Tottenham currently sit in second place, nine points behind Chelsea, ahead of Saturday's game against Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane.
"I think if we end up in the same situation, maybe we can do something special compared to last year," the Belgium midfielder told Sky Sports News HQ.
"It is difficult to tell, but we have this feeling that we can do something of course.
"I think personally that I and most of us learned from last year. But it's a difficult thing, you need to be in that situation again to see if we have outgrown that.
"There is a very good vibe, there's a difference compared to last year, so yes I think we can do something special in the same situation."
Dembele escaped serious injury after being on the receiving end of a knee high challenge from Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell during the sides' goalless draw at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.
Rodwell was booked by referee Lee Mason, but Dembele believes a heavier punishment may have been more suitable with team-mate Danny Rose also cut down by a strong tackle from Billy Jones.
"When I saw the images as well, in my opinion the referee was close enough but we have to respect his decision," the 29-year-old said.
"Of course, for me there were a few challenges in the game that I felt could have been more [than a yellow]."
