Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says a "few idiots killed everything" when they damaged the Manchester City team bus ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield.
City were forced to seek new transport for their return journey back to Manchester following the 3-0 defeat on Wednesday, after cans and bottles were thrown at their bus on its way to the match.
Liverpool apologised to City ahead of kick-off and said they "condemn in the strongest possible terms the scenes" outside the ground, and Klopp admits the violence outside the stadium affected his own morale ahead of the game.
"I have to say apologies again for how things happened before the game," said Klopp, speaking ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
"It's so strange. You go with your own bus through the crowd and it feels fantastic and it's great. It's support, it's passion.
"But we came into the stadium and the first thing I heard was they had smashed the bus of Manchester City and it kills everything.
"You can't feel it anymore. You give everyone the opportunity to do something good and because of a few idiots it might never happen again."
Klopp also thanked City's medics for treating an injured Liverpool fan on their way back from Anfield at almost the same spot their team bus had been attacked.
"Then the medical staff did what they did after the game," added Klopp. "It was an outstanding gesture from City. It was an outstanding thing to do. It leaves us in an even worse situation.
"The atmosphere during the game was one of the best I've experienced but these things that happened around it are not okay."
