Morocco 1-2 Netherlands: Vincent Janssen strikes in friendly win
Thursday 1 June 2017 09:58, UK
Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen struck for the Netherlands as they beat Morocco 2-1 in a friendly on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old, who struggled for form and confidence in his first season at White Hart Lane, netted in the 68th minute in Agadir in the first game since the appointment of Dick Advocaat for his third stint in charge of the Dutch national side.
Advocaat, however, missed the match as he's still in charge of Fenerbahce, with the Turkish season not finishing until this weekend, with Fred Grim taking caretaker charge.
Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes had given the Netherlands the lead after 22 minutes, and Janssen doubled it before defender Matthijs de Ligt was sent off after bringing down Walid Azarou when the Moroccan was through on goal.
Mbark Boussoufa then pulled one back for the home side, but the Dutch held on for a morale-boosting victory before another friendly with the Ivory Coast on Sunday, and a World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg next week.
Netherlands missed out on Euro 2016 and are struggling in World Cup qualification as well. They have claimed just seven points from their first five games and are currently three points behind Sweden in second in Group A.
