Russian youngster also backs Renault to improve for Barcelona tests

Daniil Kvyat believes Red Bull enjoyed their best day of testing yet with the RB11 on Wednesday at Jerez, even though the team ran into yet more power unit problems.
While a major improvement over last year’s disastrous start with the RB10 was never going to be particularly difficult for the former world champions, Red Bull still hit trouble on all four days in southern Spain, leaving them only ahead of McLaren-Honda in the mileage charts.
On Day Four, Kvyat – who had already lost most of his running on his first day in the car when he damaged the only front wing Red Bull had at the track at the time – stopped during the morning due to problems with the RB11’s energy recovery system.
However, once back on circuit the 20-year-old racked up a total of 64 laps, and although his fastest time was three seconds off Ferrari’s pace, he reckons Red Bull could be pleased with their day’s work.
“It’s been a very productive day all in all for us so we can pick up some good points from the day,” Kvyat told Sky Sports News HQ.
“Every lap counts, every lap is important and today we managed a few laps – the most productive days in this test.
“For Barcelona we know where we want to be and need to be and we will keep our progress [going] on. We will analyse everything, understand where we want to be, what we want to improve and then Barcelona is not so far away.”
The Toro Rosso graduate, who said that his acclimatisation into Red Bull’s senior team was going well, has also backed engine suppliers Renault to get on top of the niggling issues they experienced at Jerez in time for the first of the Barcelona tests in two weeks’ time.
“Problems are always problems and you just have to sort them out,” Kvyat remarked.
“It’s not something that I can fix personally; we will keep working and support each other. I trust in Renault and Red Bull and we will hopefully make good use of it.”
