Nico Hulkenberg will be demoted three grid places for the Japanese GP after colliding with Felipe Massa in Singapore.
The pair tangled when the Williams driver returned to the track after a pit stop and made contact as they fought for track position.
Although the stewards have blamed Hulkenberg, meting out a grid penalty for next week's race at Suzuka, the German felt he did nothing wrong.
"I don't understand why the penalty's given right away and why they didn't listen to what the different views were. I'll go back and speak to the team," Hulkenberg told Sky Sports F1.
"I saw him coming out of the pitlane, but afterwards I knew I was in front. And then I got hit in the back."
Asked for his view of the incident, Massa said: "I was going into corner one from the pit-lane and I was on the inside so I braked inside, he braked outside and he just turned as if I wasn't there and hit me.
"If he stayed on the right and gave me the space it would have been possible to go around and then overtake me because he is on the inside for the next corner. I don't understand why he just turned the car over my car so for sure it was his mistake."
