Kimi Raikkonen's 'strange' retirement from the US GP

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen had to reverse back in to the pit lane after an 'unsafe release' from his pit stop left him with a loose rear right tyre

As race retirements go, Kimi Raikkonen's was one of the most unusual seen this season as the Ferrari driver dropped out of the United States Grand Prix immediately after a pit stop.

"What a strange retirement, one of the strangest," said Sky F1's Martin Brundle as the Finn pulled up in the uphill pit lane exit road before rolling back into the pitlane to park his car.

It appears a problem attaching the right-rear wheel led Raikkonen to pull up after leaving the pits, with the resultant DNF bringing to an end a run of 11 consecutive points finishes for the Finn.

Ferrari were fined €5,000 for the unsafe release.
