Fernando Alonso has completed his first test in IndyCar ahead of the Indianapolis 500 later this month.
The Spaniard passed the Rookie Orientation Programme at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to ensure he will be able to race on May 28.
The programme required Alonso to complete 10 laps at 205-210mph, 15 laps at 210-215mph and 15 laps over 215mph.
Alonso is competing in a McLaren-branded Andretti Honda car, which was unveiled at the circuit earlier on Wednesday.
"That was great. He did perfect, everything he was supposed to do and now we can go play a little bit," said Michael Andretti, team owner of Andretti Autosport.
Alonso, a two-time Formula 1 world champion, is sitting out the Monaco GP in order to take part in the iconic American race as he attempts to complete motorsport's Triple Crown.
Having twice won in Monaco, Alonso is attempting to add the Indy 500 and the Le Mans 24 Hours to his roll of honour before he retires from racing - a feat only achieved by the late Graham Hill.
Wednesday represented the first time the 35-year-old had driven a real IndyCar around the Indianapolis oval circuit, having only previously done work in the simulator.
Jenson Button will replace Alonso in the McLaren-Honda at the Monaco GP and sent a message to his former team-mate prior to his debut.
"Fernando, it's your replacement, here," Button said. "Remember me? I used to be your team-mate.
"I have just seen a picture of your car which looks awesome. Good luck and stay safe. I will keep your seat warm in Monaco and get lots of juicy points for when you return, and make you jealous you did not race."
Alonso flew straight to America after another dismal weekend in Formula 1 in which he failed to even start the Russian GP as engine problems stopped his McLaren on the formation lap. He has retired from all four grands prix in 2017.
He will return to Formula 1 for the Spanish GP from May 12-14 before heading back to the States to prepare for the Indy 500 immediately after his home race.

May 20: Indy 500 practice and qualifying
May 28: Indy 500 race
