Lewis Hamilton speaks to Craig Slater after qualifying on pole for the British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton praised the atmosphere created by the British fans at Silverstone - and their sense of humour - after claiming pole position for his home race.

Ahead of a potentially famous Sunday for British sport as Hamilton goes for a fourth British GP win and Andy Murray a second Wimbledon tennis crown, Hamilton declared: "We have the best fans without a doubt."

The world champion was also tickled by a banner created for Nico Rosberg, seemingly referring to the one attached to a grandstand which cheekily pokes fun at the Mercedes team-mates' collision at last weekend's Austrian GP.

"I saw an amazing banner this morning, I don't know if you've seen it, for Nico," said Hamilton, with a smile. "It was amazing."
