Ted Kravitz gives his thoughts on Saturday's qualifying session at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Ted Kravitz rounds up all the news following qualifying in Shanghai where Lewis Hamilton took pole for the Chinese GP.

Hamilton held off the challenge of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to secure Mercedes their sixth consecutive pole in Shanghai, finishing 0.186 seconds ahead of the German.

Vettel pipped Valtteri Bottas to a place on the front row as the fight between the Scuderia and Silver Arrows went down to the wire in Q3.

Elsewhere, it was a tough session for Red Bull's Max Verstappen as engine problems saw him knocked out in Q1, but Fernando Alonso "drove like an animal" to drag one of the McLaren-Hondas into Q2.
