Daniel Ricciardo: Max Verstappen as team-mate has raised my game

Ricciardo and Verstappen praise the impact of each other

Daniel Ricciardo has credited the arrival of Max Verstappen at Red Bull for helping him find "a little bit more" amid one of the strongest runs of form of his career.

Although Verstappen claimed what stands as Red Bull's only victory of the season on his debut for the team at the Spanish GP, Ricciardo has outscored the highly-rated Dutchman by 27 points in the 11 races since they became team-mates. He also holds a nine-two advantage in their qualifying head-to-head.

"I always felt I was at the limit up to that point when Max arrived. What probably sparked the driver change was that I was performing quite well compared to Daniil [Kvyat] from testing through to Russia.

"Then Max came on board and, obviously I thought I was driving at my limit, but I guess there was something a little bit more and I feel we have probably both given each other that. I feel Max has lifted his game even more, and I have.

"So it's cool to know we have a little bit more in the tank."

Verstappen himself acknowledged the challenge he has faced going head-to-head with Ricciardo, who he says he enjoys working with.

"I also had to step up," said Verstappen.
