Lewis Hamilton span off the track and hit the barriers during Practice 2 of the Hungarian GP, causing the session to be stopped

Lewis Hamilton's perfect start to the Hungarian GP weekend was halted during Practice Two as he span off track and into the barriers at Turn 11.

The world champion dominated P1 and was topping the timesheets in Friday's second session before locking up at the newly-resurfaced Hungaroring, hitting the wall side-on in his Mercedes.

Hamilton limped back to the pits following the heavy shunt, with Mercedes confirming he would not return in P2.

P2 report: Rosberg sets pace in Hamilton's absence

"Those new white kerbs, I just touched it and it sent me flying," Hamilton told Sky F1. "It was a pretty hard hit. I could probably have gone out but if it would have failed then [it would have been worse].

"Obviously, not the greatest session for me."

The Brit had to report to the medical centre for a routine check-up, which was mandatory after the impact, measured at 12G, triggered a sensor on his W07.

The dent in the barriers also caused the session to be momentarily red-flagged - while Mercedes face a night of work ahead of qualifying thanks to damage to the front suspension.

"Fortunately I got a good feel for it in the few laps that I have and the pace is clearly there," Hamilton added..
