Mercedes’ brake problems in Bahrain are testament to just how hard they are being pushed by Ferrari, according to the guests on this week’s edition of the Midweek Report.

Both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton endured brake issues during the final stages of the desert race, with Rosberg subsequently caught and passed by the Scuderia’s Kimi Raikkonen and Hamilton’s ailing car crossing the line just three seconds ahead of the Finn.

“It happened as a result of them feeling the pressure from Ferrari,” opined former McLaren mechanic Marc Priestley as he joined Natalie Pinkham and ex-Williams head of engineering Mark Gillan.

“It’s a real sign of the times that they are having to look over their shoulders and decisions like this, where they are looking for tiny a bit of performance gain, introduce an element of risk. It cos them slightly but it could have been a lot worse.”

Sky F1’s Ted Kravitz and Bruno Senna also join the show to discuss the improved performances of Rosberg and Raikkonen under the lights of Bahrain, while there’s an in-depth discussion on the ongoing travails of McLaren and the prospects of the former superpower returning to the front of the grid in the second-half of the season.
