F1 drivers' crash helmets: The looks to watch out for in F1 2018

It is the part of a Formula 1 driver's race uniform which is the most personalised - and the one which is undoubtedly the most recognisable.

So the unveiling of a driver's crash helmet design for a new season is always a point of interest, with drivers and their chosen designers mulling over possible arrangements for months.

Fernando Alonso has become the latest driver to show off his design for 2018, with the Spaniard revealing a dramatic new look for the season.

The McLaren driver has traditionally raced with three colours on his helmet - the turquoise of the Asturias region, the part of Spain he hails from, plus the red and yellow of the national flag. Those colours remain for 2018, but the front of the helmet is now predominantly blue.

Meanwhile, in special Red Bull videos, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo also explained the tweaks they have made to their respective designs ahead of a season in which they are hoping to challenge for F1's world title for the first time.

Rather like the expectation for his team's new RB14 car when it is launched on Monday, Verstappen has opted for evolution rather than revolution with the Dutchman explaining the changes he has made from the design he finished last season with (2017 helmet pictured above).

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas handed the task of designing his 2018 lid over to the team's fans, with the Finn selecting the below design:

But the the trio aren't the only drivers to reveal his 2018 design in recent weeks, with Haas driver Romain Grosjean and Sauber pair Marcus Ericsson and Charles Leclerc also publishing pictures of their respective designs:
