It's the battle which F1 has spent a decade waiting for, and it was Lewis Hamilton who won their first duel when he went head-to-head with Sebastian Vettel at the Spanish Grand Prix.
After both drivers pitted under the Virtual Safety Car, the Mercedes and Ferrari cars converged at the first corner of the Circuit de Catalunya.
An enthralling ding-dong battle then took hold, with Hamilton's first attempt ending with the Mercedes W08 off track and the Englishman complaining that his rival had been "dangerous".
Speaking after the race, Vettel reflected: "It was very close when we came out. I was just guessing on the braking but there was no room for him. I don't know if we touched. It was really close."
But Hamilton, running on soft tyres, made no mistake on his second attempt, sweeping past the medium-shod Ferrari to take the lead of the race.
"That's how racing should be," enthused Hamilton. "It was incredibly close."
