Felipe Massa says he is proud of his achievements in Formula 1 as he prepares to bid an emotional farewell to the sport.
Sunday's Brazilian GP will be the 250th and last F1 race for the Brazilian. Admired, dignified and humble in equal measure, the 35-year-old will be hanging up his gloves after almost 15 years at the pinnacle of motorsport.
At last week's Brazilian GP, his final race at Interlagos in front of his home support, Martini, Williams' title sponsors, removed their logo from his car to place a message of 'thanks' while the pitlane formed a guard of honour when Felipe returned to the Williams garage after crashing out from his penultimate GP.
Massa may be famed for being the 30-second world champion after his heartbreaking 2008 title near miss but his popularity has been perpetual.
But it is this weekend's Abu Dhabi which marks the final chapter in Massa's 15-year Formula 1 career during which time he has driven for Sauber, Ferrari and Williams and registered eleven victories and 41 podiums.
"I think this is the right time," said Felipe of his decision to retire. "I am proud of my decision and proud of what l passed through and learnt.
"But l will miss driving the most incredible cars in the world."
