Van Gerwen lost his first Premier League Darts match of the season last Thursday against James Wade, then was beaten by Mervyn King the next day in his first UK Open match.

"Michael does what he thinks is best. But he has looked flat at times," Lloyd told The Darts Show podcast.

"During those flat periods if he blasts a good leg, he will blast another four or five on the trot.

"But he hasn't been doing that in the Premier League and didn't do that [at the UK Open]."

The reigning Premier League champion should revitalise himself with a break from competitive action, believes Lloyd.

"Michael needs a little holiday," he said.

"I think Michael might say: 'stop the ride, I need to lay by the beach'.

"But he can't go missing for long, because of the Premier League."

Van Gerwen aims to rebound from his first defeat of the year in the tournament when Premier League Darts heads to Aberdeen on Thursday, where he will play John Henderson.
