Daryl Gurney has described winning the World Grand Prix title as the best moment of his life after snatching a dramatic victory in Dublin.
Gurney edged past Simon Whitlock 5-4 in a thrilling final at the CityWest Hotel, firing a string of 100+ checkouts on his way to the £100,000 prize and maiden major television title.
The Northern Irishman lost the first two sets but bounced back to lead 3-2 in the best-of-nine contest, before recovering from going 4-3 down to win the final two sets.
"I'm lost for words - I can't believe it, I really can't," said Gurney after his victory. "It feels better than anything else I've ever felt in my life.
"I wanted to come up here tonight and play my best game, which I think I did, but giving Simon the first set got me more determined.
"I still had the belief in my game that I could come back when I was 2-0 down. Dreams do come true and this is a dream."
Whitlock was chasing a first major televised victory since his success at the 2012 European Championship, with the Australian keen to take the positives from a runner-up finish in Ireland.
"I'm really happy with that," Whitlock said. "Congratulations to Daryl, he has been a form player this year and for him to win at home is amazing.
"I'll be back; I have many more days left in me. It's just forwards for me now, I'm happy, I'm confident and I'm back playing the way I should be."
