The Citywest Hotel will play host to the World Grand Prix as the cream of world darts face one of the toughest tests on the circuit and as Hawaii 501 explains doubling in Dublin brings a different kind of pressure.
It seems obvious but if you can't hit your doubles you are going to struggle - it is no good not getting in because you don't get the chance to check out.
It's different and it doesn't allow the flowing players to flow. You have to kick in first dart, if you are not doing that it becomes so tiring and taxing.
No other format throughout the year is like that, you just cannot relax - you are three darts away from disaster every single leg.
I love darts! And if you look down the list of winners, you can remember how most of them won it.
MVG last year - he was getting in. It wasn't sensational but the first or second dart was going in on that first visit.
Routine and Rhythm
With the Grand Prix if you are struggling you cannot relax first off, so Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis even Michael van Gerwen to a point need routine and rhythm to play well.
Without it they are going to struggle and that is Gary Anderson all over. When he hasn't got that rhythm he becomes less of a player than he really is.
Every time Barney has let himself down in this tournament it has been because his starting double hasn't worked, and in his own mind he has got no way back.
He will go from 18s to tops. Once tops is not going in he could throw at absolutely anything, double 16 or double 10. Double 14 or double 13 - you have got to have a plan.
That routine of 'I've missed 20s, I go to 16s, if I miss 16s I go to 8s' if you haven't got that routine the rhythm can't be there. Once it goes wrong you have to have a plan.
I hated it!
It's 20 years and I only played in seven or eight of them and I have to say for me it was the worst tournament of the year. I hated it and for one reason - it ruined my rhythm completely.
I loved the Matchplay and I loved the World Championships - those ones with the long formats as you can lose the first couple of legs or a set and still be relaxed.
What it does is it makes you panic and lose your concentration. I had many a good game up there when you're flowing and it's all easy and great but under the pressure, I used to wilt quite quickly because doubling was not always my strong suit.
20 years of the Grand Prix
My memories of the Grand Prix usually revolve around Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor, especially Michael in 2012 when he won his first 'major' in the PDC.
He took out 145 to beat Mervyn King from 4-1 down it was amazing and watching Phil in the 2004-07 period when he was dismantling people with 107/108 averages - those performance were incredible for double-in starts.
Wayne Mardle was speaking to Sky Sports' Paul Prenderville and will join Dave Clark, Rod Harrington and the rest of the team for the World Grand Prix which gets underway on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm on Sunday
