Kyle Anderson and Dave Chisnall claimed the Players Championship title in Barnsley over the weekend, with Anderson claiming his maiden PDC title.

It was a busy weekend in south Yorkshire and it was joy on Saturday for Australia's Anderson who also hit a nine-dart finish on his way to a memorable title, while on Sunday Dave Chisnall took the honours at the Metrodome.

Anderson, a six-time semi-finalist on the PDC ProTour, produced a superb display to beat Kevin Painter 6-2 in Saturday's Players Championship 17 - 'The Artist' also making a notable achievement by playing in his first final for almost four years.

"Today it all came together. I said to myself, I have to take the chances I make for myself and today I took my chance," said Anderson.

"I've never doubted myself - everybody on the tour can do what I did today and it's the ones who don't get nervous who come through in the end.

"This is not a one off, I have to win again, there has to be more!"

The world No 29, who is based in Nottingham and has to spend the majority of the year without his wife Tara and son Charles, also spoke of how having them around for the last five weeks has benefited him.

Anderson kicked off with victory over Tony Newell, and then needed an 11th leg shoot-out to beat Nathan Aspinall.

Ryan Meikle and Ronny Huybrechts were beaten as the Aussie booked his last eight place and back-to-back 6-3 victories over Stephen Bunting and Michael Smith to set up the decider with Painter, who beat Mike De Decker, Vincent van der Voort, Jamie Lewis, Mervyn King, Gerwyn Price and Jermaine Wattimena on route to the final.

On Sunday it was the turn of Chisnall to claim his first title of 2017, beating Richard North 6-5 to win the final of Players Championship 18.

The world No six has lost out twice in finals this year, against Adrian Lewis in a Players Championship in Milton Keynes and to Michael van Gerwen in last month's Shanghai Darts Masters, but he went all the way to the £10,000 top prize by seeing off North in a decider.

A third-round loser to Christian Kist in Saturday's Players Championship 17, Chisnall opened his challenge on Sunday with a superb whitewash of Darren Johnson.

He then edged out Yordi Meeuwisse, Ritchie Edhouse, Jelle Klaasen and Brendan Dolan to reach the last four where he beat Ryan Searle before coming from 2-0 and 3-1 down in the final against North.

"I'm playing good darts at the moment and if my doubles go in, I'm dangerous," said Chisnall.

"My doubles were going in and that's what lets me down most, so it was nice. I said last week in Blackpool that I was looking forward to Barnsley, that I was going to win one this weekend and I've just done it, so happy days."

North's run to the final was his best on the professional circuit since he won a PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School in January, defeating Ricky Evans, Ryan Meikle, Steve West, Joe Cullen and Stephen Bunting on his way to the final.
