The World Darts Championship is coming soon

When was the first time you played darts?

I was 12, indoors. Making big holes in my mum and dad's house.

Do you play now?

Every now and then I play; we used to have a darts board in the house.

Have you ever hit a 180, if not what's your highest score?

I've hit a 140, but never a 180. My boy Sam has hit plenty of 180s, he's a very good player.

Only seven men have been victorious at the World Darts Championships

Which is your favourite darts tournament to watch?

The Worlds. Because it's the same as everything, all the best players come out and everybody turns up for this big one. The best of the best.

How do you watch the darts?

With my eyes open, sitting on my bum. Nah, I watch it on the tele, or I go to Ally Pally. I've been every year to Ally Pally.

What's the most memorable darts moment you've seen?

Keith Deller winning the World Championship in 1983 [against Eric Bristow]. Massive shock. He had big darts, the heaviest darts you've ever seen, like javelins. I'll always remember Keith Deller.

Who is your favourite darts player and why?

Dennis Priestley, he's a nice bloke. I've met him a few times. But I also liked Jocky Wilson too.

If you were at Ally Pally this year what would be your fancy dress outfit of choice?

I'd go as a Sky Sports presenter!

If you were a darts player what would your name be?

Paul 'Wild Thing' Merson. I've got a 'Wild Thing' darts top; me and Adrian Lewis played Kammy and Phil Taylor before the Worlds two years ago and was given that.

How about your walk-on music?

Well, 'Wild Thing' by The Troggs.

Who are you tipping for this year's World Championship?

I can't look further than Michael van Gerwen. He's the next Phil Taylor.
