Primoz Roglic wins Tour de Romandie with Egan Bernal second for Team Sky

Primoz Roglic held off the challenge of Team Sky's Egan Bernal to win the Tour de Romandie.

Roglic, a former ski jump champion, has emerged as an all-round road cycling talent over the last three years and secured his second WorldTour victory of the season after also winning the Tour of the Basque Country.

Roglic (Lotto-NL Jumbo) had been in front since the second stage and, after losing a few seconds to Bernal in Friday's time-trial, managed to hold off the Colombian on Saturday's exacting queen stage.

An eight-second advantage appeared slim but the final stage was the easiest of the week and ended in a bunch sprint which was won by Germany's Pascal Ackermann for the Bora-Hansgrohe team.

But Roglic was comfortably able to keep tabs on Bernal in the peloton and cross the line to maintain his lead.

Richie Porte finished third overall for BMC Racing, some 35 seconds adrift of the new champion, who was a stage winner at the Tour de France in 2017.
