Tour de Romandie: Nairo Quintana keeps lead as Thibaut Pinot wins TT

Nairo Quintana extended his overall lead of the Tour de Romandie as Thibaut Pinot won stage three's individual time trial.

Pinot (FDJ.fr) stopped the clock on a 15.1km course around Sion in 20min 21sec, which was two seconds faster than runner-up Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) and nine seconds ahead of third-placed Bob Jungels (Etixx - Quick-Step).

Both Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Quintana (Movistar) also finished nine seconds down in fourth and sixth place respectively, while Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) was 59 seconds adrift in 36th.

The result saw Pinot climb to second place in the general classification, 23 seconds behind Quintana, while Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha) falls to third, 26 seconds back, after finishing seventh on the day.

Froome is now 81st but remains 17min 50sec off the lead.

The six-day race continues on Saturday with a 172.7km fourth stage ending with a summit finish at Villars-sur-Ollon.
