Chris Froome finished 27th on his first day of racing in 2016 as William Clarke took the early lead of the Herald Sun Tour in Australia by winning the 2.1km prologue time trial.
Clarke (Drapac Professional Cycling) stopped the clock in 2min 34sec, which was one second faster than runner-up Caleb Ewan (Orica-GreenEdge) and eight seconds ahead of Froome.
Peter Kennaugh (Team Sky) was the best-placed Briton, in 11th, five seconds down on the winning time.
