Alastair Cook became England's all-time leading Test run scorer on day two of the second Test with New Zealand at Headingley.
The England captain secured the 32 runs he needed to overhaul his mentor Graham Gooch’s tally of 8,900, breaking the record in his 114th Test shortly after lunch with a driven four through point off Tim Southee.

Cook made his England debut against India in Nagpur in 2006, scoring an unbeaten 104 in the second innings after notching 60 in the first.
The left-hander has gone on to register a total of 27 Test-match centuries – four more than the next man on the list, Kevin Pietersen – with his most recent ton coming in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s.
