David Warner has stepped down as captain of the Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.
The Australia vice-captain has been sent home from the ongoing South Africa tour along with captain Steve Smith and Warner's fellow opener Cameron Bancroft, after the trio's plan to scuff up the ball was exposed during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
The fall-out from the scandal continues and Smith had already been replaced as captain of his IPL franchise, the Rajasthan Royals.
On Wednesday Sunrisers chief executive K. Shanmugam said on the team's official Twitter page: "In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"The new captain of the team will be announced shortly."
Warner has also lost his sponsorship deal with multinational electronics company LG.
An LG spokeswoman said in a statement: "LG's current sponsorship of David Warner is in the final weeks, and in light of recent events we have decided not to renew our partnership.
"LG Australia will always look to work with ambassadors that share our core brand values and we take these relationships incredibly seriously to ensure we put our customers, employees and stakeholders first."
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland revealed on Tuesday that Smith, vice-captain Warner and Bancroft were the only members of the touring party involved in the plot to manipulate the condition of the ball and they are expected to face further sanctions.
Darren Lehmann was cleared of any involvement and will continue as head coach.
