Michael Holding says that not only was it important for the West Indies to get the two points against Ireland, but the manner in which they got them was important too.

The Windies beat Ireland by eight wickets as Shiv Chanderpaul hit a superb century in their rain-hit Group D decider in Kingston, Jamaica.

"Everyone was saying after the Zimbabwe win, that although they won it was not a convincing victory," said Holding.

"Well today they got what they were asking for - a convincing win against Ireland.

"I think the bowlers have done a pretty good job. I was impressed by them in the Pakistan game. They only gave away four extras. That is exactly what you are hoping for from your bowlers.

"What they need to do is to go into the next round of games with their spirits up."
